Loans For Adults

I was wondering what kind of student loans might be available to adults and where one would apply for them. It seems you don't hear much about grants or scholarships for adults anymore. I'd appreciate any feedback on this!

It's nice to meet you! Hopefully if we give it some time someone will be able to shed some light on this situation! I left a message at our local community college today requesting more information on adult education. I'll be sure to add anything I learn to this thread!

I would suggest contacting the financial aid office at the school you're considering attending. They would be able to tell you what loans or grants are available for the "non-traditional" student. I can't think of anything else you might be able to do, off hand.

Best of luck on furthering your education, nangel!

If you are currently working, you might consider going to your human resources department. They may have a program to help with school. It can't hurt to check it out, it won't cost you anything.

Federal Student Aid

In the U.S., your first application is to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). Please note that as the title suggests, this form is available for free. You can get assistance completing it by calling a toll-free number. Don't fall for scammers who promise to teach you the "secrets" to getting government money. I used to work at the federal student aid hotline, and I can tell you that EVERYTHING you need to know is available at no charge to you.

Different kinds of loans available include Stafford Loans for students and PLUS loans for parents. Different schools may also offer their own private loan programs for students and parents.

If you get a direct loan, you borrow money directly from the government. If you get a Federal Family Education Loan, the money will come from an entity like a bank or a credit union, but they will still need to follow all federal guidelines.

For more info, contact the financial aid office at your school!

I want to attend our local community college to get my real estate license and I need some kind of financial aid. I have started with the FASFA first and hopefully will have other leads too.

FAFSA is a great one for adults as well as college students. It works similar to a clearing house for student grants and loans. They will qualify you first for "free" government grant money, PELL and then for student loans such as Perkins, Sallie Mae etc....It is your option whether you accept any of them. Of course, you would want to take the PELL, which is the free government money.

I like FAFSA too. I would also check with the financial aid at your school to see what else is available.
