How can one cut home owners insurance in half?

People ask themselves how it is possible for one to cut their home owners imsurance premium into half and yet they still live in the same house which has the same value?

You can up your deductible, take a look at what all you have covered and decide if everything is really necessary. Some things might be covered by other insurance. Such as autos. Some policies allow for destruction of autos if there is an earthquake or fire and your car is destroyed. Well, you already have insurance on your car that should cover that. You are double dipping. Just go over your policy and highlight items you have a question about. The ask your agent if it's really necessary or what.

Stella, I am an insurance agent and my advice to you would be this:
Shop around...insurance rates are very very competative. Try to keep your auto, home and life insurance with one company it will usually net you a discount. The advice given above is also good...a higher deductable equals a lower premium. HTH

Can you save money by using the same insurance company for your car and home or is it a bad idea to let one company have that much power over your life?

My homeowners insurance is with the same company I use for car insurance, and I find it's easier.

Insurance companies are able to offer you better prices when you insure everything with them. It's a win-win situation. In addition, if you've formed a bond with your agent (which you should) it would make sense to handle as much business through them as possible. They will be aware of the entirity of your situation and be able to take better care of you! HTH

I use the same insurance for my auto and home as well. It makes things a lot easier and I got a decent discount through my employer.

This is something we will have to check into. I never really thought about doing it because we've had the car insurance at the same place for so long. Then it was a different place for renter's insurance and now we have homeowners. Maybe when the house is paid off it would be a good idea to get them all at the same place.

When we had our house, we got a 20% discount for having our house insurance and car insurance at the same place. You can also get a discount by having a monitoring service like ADT. I'm not sure if they discount would pay for the service, but it can't hurt to check it out.
