The wrong home

Choosing the wrong home is the easiest mistake to make. You should write down your wants and needs to make sure you make an informed decision. The house may be too big or small for your future needs, too far from work, too close to high traffic areas, too expensive to fix up, or in the wrong price range.

Yes, we kept all these things in mind before buying. I think most of them
would be rather hard to overlook, though, and people probably keep them
in mind at all times. The only thing that buyers may not know at the time
is which future needs they may end up having.

My husband and I took our time in getting a home. We looked for over a year.

My husband and I had a list of "What We Need" and "What We Won't Accept." We gave it to our Realtor and he did the rest of the work.

Oh wow, that would have really worn me down. We found the house we wanted online, showed it to the realtor after he tried to show us a dump, he arranged for a showing the same day and we went to sign papers that same night... so it took one day, first day we started looking. It's our dream house and we've loved it more every year we've been here.

The Wrong Home

I set out to look for a house or condo a couple of years ago, but found the whole process too overwhelming and decided to stay in my apartment. Frankly, I was scared of choosing the wrong place at the wrong price.

Also, when they were handing out the do-it-yourself genes I must have been asleep. I am not into painting, wall-papering, fixing leaks, mowing the lawn, or anything else a home owner must do. If something goes wrong in the middle of the night, I want to be able to call my landlord.

So, no homes for me right now. If my rent goes up any more, though, I might be tempted again.

There certainly is something to be said about being able to call a landlord when something goes wrong. I miss that a lot.

I guess you haven't had to deal with the same kind of landlord our last
one was. I didn't even feel comfortable keeping the doors unlocked in
the daytime.

Also think about what season it is and what might potentially change when the seasons change. My previous house was across the road from a chicken farm. It was way off the road and I didn't think anything of it, until summer rolled around. That is not a pleasant smell in the summer heat, and there is nothing positive to be said about having to scoop stray chicken feathers out of the pool before going swimming.

Eeeeew! You're right... that's another important thing to take into
consideration. Before we moved, there was a pig farm about two miles
from us. We couldn't smell it, of course, but every time we went past
there, I wondered how people living closeby could possibly stand it.
