Information control

A couple of years ago I got a notice that a laptop with financial information had been stolen, and that I probably needed to contact the credit reporting agencies to inform them. Apprently, this puts a freeze on any new cretid, I think.

This got me thinking. Is there a way to permanent make it impossible for comapnies to look at your credit report without your express permission?

IF there is, I'm not aware of it. How do you think you get all those offers for "pre-approved" credit cards. The companies run your credit and then send the offers if they're sure you will qualify. Luckily, those types of inquiries don't affect your credit score. I wish they were illegal, however. I hate people that have no reason to knowing my business.

This happened to me, too... hate when that happens. But to answer your
question, I haven't heard that it's possible but it would sure make us feel more
secure wouldn't it? That should be something that's worked on in the future
for security.

I too wish that there was a way to prevent it. If I want to seek out credit for something that is my business, however I dont want to be bombarded with offers from companies I haven't even heard of.

I'm not sure if there is a way, but you could try checking with the big three reporting agencies to find out.

I had this happen to me as well. I know you can put a "flag" on your credit history for 90 days to stop or limit credit card offers from being solicited. However, you credit report is a part of your identity. Much like your ss number.
