Does the credit card company ask for proof of earnings before approval?

Does anyone know if credit card companies ask for proof of earnings? I wanted to apply for O% credit card for balance transfer but unsure if they require proof of my earnings

I have never heard of that or have had to do that before.

I've never heard of a credit card company actually making you send proof of income, but they do ask you about your income and have you sign a statement at the bottom that the information you've given is true.

I guess theoretically if you lied to them and got into trouble making payments they could come back and block bankruptcy proceedings or something, though I've never heard of that happening.

With all of the unsolicited "pre-approved" cards being sent out in the mail, without the person's even ASKING for them, I can't see where they would ask for proof of income. However, like Calypso said, you do have to sign a statement that the information you give is true, so I guess you have to way the truth of the statement before you sign it.

They shouldn't need it. They have your social security number and can get a credit report and somewhere in there is an idea of what you make.

The credit report does have all the information on there so I think that is how they do it.

It's funny though, I'm getting more credit card offers now, when I'm having more financial trouble than I've had in seven years, than I received when I was stable and paying off my balances on time. Those credit card companies are like vultures!
