Flurry of credit card offers

I live in the U.S., and I've noticed for the last three or four weeks that I have just been flooded with offers for credit cards--sometimes up to five in a single day. I know my credit score hasn't improved dramatically, nor has my income gone up (on the contrary, I've just take a six week leave of absence for health related problems which basically cut my income in half).

So, what gives with these credit card companies? Spring madness? Or something more sinister...?

I too was wondering that. Nothing has changed at all about the status of income in our house, or our outgoing bills. Nor has our credit improved or declined. But it seems like one or both of us is getting at least one or two offers a day.

You took that forebearance, right? That hit the credit airwaves with a flourish. They think you'll need the money or charge up items and by working with a creditor, you've shown that you will pay.

We've been experiencing this as well but I attribute it to our purchase of a new to us car. I find it amazing how our credit habits are traded among so many people so quickly! Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

When I set up my LLC I got a ton of offers for business oriented credit cards. As soon as anything changes for you the offers come streaming in. It happened just after we bought our home as well. It seems really stupid to me because people are so strapped after such a huge purchase that it would be suicide to add more debt .

I removed myself from the list of people who want to receive preapproved credit card offers, and since then my trips to the mailbox have been much more peaceful.

How did you get yourself taken off the list for pre-approved credit card applications? I'd like to do that myself.

I bet it was that *(*^$# forbearance. That and the fact that since I had to be off work for six weeks I had to leave small balances on a couple of my credit cards, though I'm getting them paid off now. The credit card industry reminds me of vultures, circling to look for something vulnerable or in distress and then attacking all out. I really wish I didn't have to carry any credit cards, but with my health not quite stable, I need at least one for medical emergencies.

I think that's the reason they send them at those times... they want a
piece of the pie when the purchasers can't pay all the new bills.

I placed myself on a do not mail list and that cut down on a lot of the offers. I usually shred any that manage to get through.
