Getting started on a new online business

Does anyone have experience with online only Businesses. Do you know if they can be filed entirely under the SS# of the owner or do you have to get a TAX NUmber and Business License?

You can run a number of business as a "Doing Business As" and just use your social security number as your id. However, if you get in to financial difficulty because of the business, they can go after your personal property a lot easier.

I just do business as a freelance writer under my own name and use my social security number to report income (and deductions...don't forget the deductions!)

I just freelance write in my spare time right now. I have not made enough to report on taxes.

I am just now making enough to start reporting on taxes...my accountant told me I should technically report *any* income, but that anything over $1000 was really fair game for the IRS. In a way it's good to know my little writing business is doing so well...in another way, I'm not thrilled to have a new source of taxable income!
