Getting Pressured
I tend to be really sensitive to pressure, and have been pushed into a couple of ideas that were not the smartest in the world. Since then, I've come up with a car shopping mantra:
1) Never buy the first thing you see. Always look around at at least two or three different places.
2) Write down any verbal promises made and compare them against the written agreement.
3) Get pre-financing so you already know how much you have to spend and what payments will be.
4) Bring along a friend who has some knowledge of cars and isn't shy about pointing out their flaws in front of the salesman.
5) Always be ready to walk out the door if the salesman can't get you the deal you want. Or as an experienced car shopper friend of mine put it, "When you start walking, they start talking."
Anyway, that's the formula I'm going to use next time I need a car. Hopefully I'll wander out with a better deal.
