Anybody ever buy a car on eBay?

A friend of mine did once. He bought it on eBay and then he and his son drove down to Florida one weekend and got it. He said that the info in the ad had been accurate and he got exactly the car he bargained for at the price he wanted.

I'd be a little nervous about making such a major purchase on eBay, though. What do you all think?

It is almost too risky to buy a used car at a lot, much less sight unseen, no test drive, and miles away. Some people are very lucky. I am afraid I wouldn't be one of them!

My parents are in the process of selling a classic car via ebay...the whole thing makes me nervous! I'd have to say I'm with SageMother on this one, it seems too risky. I would however, imagine that ebay has many rules and regulations on the sale of vehicles and it may be safer than we think?

I have never bought one but know a few people who have sold them. They all raved about the experiences that they had.

I too would be wary of making such a purchase sight unseen.

It probably wouldn't matter too much for me. I usually let the salesman talk me into a terrible deal at the lot anyway. At least if I bought on eBay, I'd have time to THINK before agreeing to a bid I couldn't afford.

Next time I go car shopping, my best friend's boyfriend has promised to go with me. He's the sweetest guy, but he looks like something the Hells Angels would be afraid to mess with. Used car salesmen don't stand a chance...

I have never bought a car off of ebay. I probably would not. I prefer to look in person.

I worked with someone who bought a car in Michigan off ebay and then flew out there and drove it home. He had a great experience with it -- but honestly, its too risky for me. Maybe if it was local.

I would never buy something like that over ebay. There are too many things that could go wrong. Besides, how would you verify that it's what they say without being able to see it first?
