There is a fantastic saying that goes really well here:
Before lending money from a friend: decide which you need more - the money or the friend.
It is sad but it's true. Too many times I have seen friendships break down or irrepairably damaged in the long term by mixing finances. This includes going into business, property, or just plain lending money. Unless each of you can separate "business" transactions from friendship, it is not a good idea.
